This year, Texas Monthly partnered with the department of creative writing at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and with Trucha, a grassroots multimedia platform based in McAllen, to solicit short essays from writers from the borderlands. Our goal was to complement our reporting on the compounding water emergency with perspectives from those who will feel its effects most acutely.
