In 1998, four Harris County deputies arrested John Geddes Lawrence Jr. and Tyron Garner after a jealous acquaintance made a false report to police alleging that one of the men had been “going crazy with a gun.” When the deputies arrived at Lawrence’s apartment, they didn’t find a gun. Instead, they found the two men having sex, and they decided to arrest them anyway.
