Odessa knows about booms and busts—the rhythm of this West Texas city rises and falls with the price of a barrel of oil. The good times last until they don’t, so it’s comforting to have something stable in the form of, say, 64 giant blocks of limestone that make up a replica of Stonehenge. Located on the north side of the University of Texas at Permian Basin, this version (at 70 percent scale vertically) reflects how the original, in Wiltshire, England, looks today, after twentieth-century restoration efforts, with some stones appearing toppled but most standing proud.
