I laughed when an oil worker told it to me, but a few days later I’d find myself lying on hot sand just outside Odessa, staring up at a monstrous black pump jack against a blue sky and wondering if God were still here, cranking away at creation from his West Texas work stool.You may not think of the stretch of Interstate 20 between Abilene and Midland-Odessa as a drive worth making.
