Texas’s foremost man of letters died five years ago tomorrow, and today is the release day for the second full biography that’s appeared since then, David Streitfeld’s Western Star: The Life and Legends of Larry McMurtry (Mariner Books).Streitfeld, a New York Times staffer who was a longtime books reporter for The Washington Post, befriended McMurtry when McMurtry had a bookstore in Georgetown in D.C.
