McDonough, who is 55, is an engine driver and conductor on the Hermann Park Railroad, in Houston.I worked in the Houston Independent School District for 31 years. I was a principal for 19 years. After I retired, my wife was scrolling through Instagram one day and noticed that the Hermann Park Conservancy was looking for train engineers. I reached out to them, came in for an interview, and got the job. Our lead engineer works full-time, and everyone else is part-time. There are a few guys in their twenties, and then there are about seven of us who are retired. My dad also drives the train.
