The crisp wind flowed up the steep hillside in waves, hissing through the juniper needles. Cedar elm branches creaked and squeaked and occasionally clacked together. It sounded like the trees were chatting with one another. I found a gap between the trunks and looked out at a hilly, forested landscape, and below me a wide river led into a lake.
