The distance from the eastern edge of Pflugerville to West Odessa is roughly the same distance as the drive from Durham, North Carolina, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The two Texas cities haven’t got much in common. Pflugerville is a suburb of Austin; major employers in the area include tech titans such as Dell, Samsung, and Tesla. The median family income is around $118,000 annually, per the U.S. Census Bureau. In West Odessa, meanwhile, top employers include oil-and-gas giants Halliburton, NexTier, and Liberty Energy, and the average household brings in less than $65,000 a year, or only a little more than half of what a family in Pflugerville earns.
