Houston was feeling the love last night at the annual James Beard Awards, in Chicago. Of the 25 categories recognizing chefs and restaurants around the country, two of the biggest went to H-Town. Best Chef: Texas was awarded to Evelyn Garcia and Henry Lu of immigrant-inspired restaurant Jūn; and Emerging Chef, which featured finalists from around the U.S., was given to Adrian Torres of modern Mexican restaurant Maximo.Torres accepted his award in a crisp Western hat, telling the audience, “I want to say something my younger self never thought I would have the opportunity [to say] today: I am proud to be the son of immigrants.
