Does Portland Still Have the Best Texas-Style Barbecue Outside of Texas?
Nearly seven years ago, I claimed that the Texas-style barbecue in Portland, Oregon, was better than that in any other city outside Texas. I went back in 2024 to double-check and found three joints to include in my “United States of Texas Barbecue” list. Portland’s smoked-meat game was still on solid footing. Barbecue guides from Portland Monthly, Eater Portland, and The Oregonian, all published within the past year, mentioned the praise I offered way back in 2019.
