It was a remarkable moment, even in a courtroom that had been producing unforgettable exchanges for two days straight. At the end of a bitter and exhausting day of an evidentiary hearing in downtown Austin to determine whether Camp Mystic can open while it’s under investigation concerning the deaths of 27 girls, Thomas Wright, a lawyer representing the camp, approached Brad Beckworth, an attorney representing the family of missing camper Cile Steward in their civil suit against the camp. Beckworth had spent much of the day questioning Edward Eastland, who codirects the camp, about why flood warnings were ignored on the night of July 4.
