Hot Summer Nights Returns With 2026 Lineup

DATE POSTED:June 10, 2026

The remedy for Austin’s slowest season has returned for its ninth annual year. Hot Summer Nights will host more than 130 acts spread across 15 downtown venues for Red River Cultural District’s summer music festival, July 16-18.

Founded in 2017 as the district’s first original, neighborhood-wide event, Hot Summer Nights has grown into a summertime counterpart to Free Week, the nonprofit’s flagship January festival. The free event continues its mission of driving foot traffic to independent venues, bars, restaurants, and small businesses during the summer lull.

As always, the lineup doubles as a snapshot of Austin’s ever-evolving music scene. Guitar bands remain a driving force with a crop of rising acts from post-punk outfit All Fours to indie rockers Whisk, alongside garage-rock minded Two Legged Dog. ACL Fest-bound electropop favorite Almost Heaven brings glossy dance-floor energy to Kingdom at the Chronicle’s own showcase (more info on that to come).

Annabelle Chairlegs continues to blur grunge and psychedelia through Lindsey Mackin’s powerhouse vocals, while Commercial Breaks leans into hook-filled guitar pop. Pseudo Desnudo’s art-pop experiments and SEXPOP’s disco-tinted dream-pop further demonstrate Austin’s affinity for genre-melting sounds.

Metalheads won’t leave empty-handed. Bat Lips’ self-described “mutantcore” combines crushing riffs with electronic textures, while Death of the Last Beautiful Jaguar explores darker territory through goth synths and post-punk atmospherics. Thrash group Nemesis keeps things fast and loud with a dose of classic 1980s metal worship.

Elsewhere, the lineup stretches across nearly every corner of the local scene. R&B artists Azurah Vibez and Cody Brandell bring soulful vocals and modern grooves, while Puerto Rican duo deCasa folds reggae, merengue, funk, and country twang influences into a bilingual sound of their own. Chicoselfie’s fuzzed-out Latin indie pop, Big Wy’s Brass Band’s New Orleans-inspired rhythms, and house-focused DJs CJ Lux and JAGGER add even more variety to the weekend.

For country devotees, rising singer-songwriter Kylie Hernandez channels Texas tradition through acoustic-driven melodies, while Libby and the Loveless continue carrying the torch for harmony-rich honky-tonk.

Several special events stand out among this year’s programming. The Austin Symphony Orchestra joins Hot Summer Nights for the first time with a free, all-ages Saturday afternoon performance at Stubb’s featuring a brass quintet accompanying readings of a children’s book in both English and Spanish.

Another newcomer arrives in the form of True Blue Tattoo, which joins the festival as a participating venue. In addition to hosting DevilWoman’s vinyl spinning darkwave, the shop will offer Hot Summer Nights-themed flash tattoos throughout the weekend.

The action unfolds across nearly every corner of the Red River Cultural District, with performances taking place at Chess Club, the Creek and the Cave, Elysium, Flamingo Cantina, Kingdom, Liberty Lunch, Marlow, Mohawk, Stubb’s, Swan Dive, the 13th Floor, the Side Bar, Valhalla, and True Blue Tattoo. Just beyond the district, the festival also expands to the Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park for select programming, giving attendees plenty of opportunities to venue-hop throughout the weekend. Alongside the Chronicle’s curated Kingdom showcase, homegrown presenters including Resound Presents, Howdy Gals, Happen Twice, and iLLManner bring extra curatorial flair to the annual mini-festival.

“Hot Summer Nights captures our Red River community at full volume,” said RRCD Executive Director Nicole Klepadlo in a press release. “Offering the freedom to wander into something unexpected, this festival has become one of Austin’s favorite ways to experience downtown in the summer.”
